It is difficult to predict the exact configuration of teams and the number of teams in each age bracket. Due to the number of players who participate in the BBYSA, the soccer league typically uses small-sided games and reduced-size fields. This allows BBYSA to formulate more teams and gives players more playtime.
I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SOCCER. HOW CAN I COACH?
BBYSA can provide novice coaches with instructional aids such as books and videos. Don’t be alarmed: This is not rocket science. Soccer is based on two things children already know how to do: running and kicking. Even if you don’t know much about the game, soccer is relatively easy to coach at the younger levels. You (and your players) can learn the basic rules of the game in a matter of minutes. Proceeding from a basic knowledge of the rules, coaching is a matter of organizing team practices and game play in a way that engages young players and develops fundamental skills. Most of all, have fun with it !!! Kids love playing soccer, and the ultimate goal of our organization is to give our players a positive experience that will help our children to develop both on and off the playing field.
Opportunities also exist to become an assistant coach. This will give a novice coach the chance to watch and learn from someone who has more experience with the game.
BBYSA needs volunteer coaches, team mothers, sponsors, concession workers, referees, and board members. Organized team soccer doesn’t just happen by itself--it takes the effort of many people working together to achieve good results. If you are interested in getting involved with BBYSA in any capacity, please contact any coach listed below.
BBYSA collects registration fees and holds additional fund raising to support BBYSA’s activities. BBYSA is a nonprofit association and participation in BBYSA’s board of directors is all-volunteer.
STYSA incurs many direct costs to run the soccer league, including the dues for each child that must be paid to STYSA, uniform costs, referee fees, and awards (trophies) for players. BBYSA incurs many other expenses, such as the cost of office supplies, radio and newspaper advertising, direct mailing costs, mandatory attendance at STYSA meetings, and various other administrative expenses.
Through additional fund-raising activities and conservative stewardship of registration fees, BBYSA has also built a reserve of funds that can be used make improvements to soccer fields and to purchase equipment such as portable goals, training aids, and soccer balls.
